Stone roofs and skylights

A stone roof is one of the longest-lasting and most representative roof coverings. In addition to slate roofs, we also install all other stone roofs – both concrete stone and ceramic roof tiles. The advantages of a stone roof are its long service life and beauty, which only gets better over the years.

Why choose a stone roof?

A properly installed stone roof lasts 50–80 years. The stone does not rust, does not rattle in the rain and does not need painting. The heavy and massive covering stands firm even in stormy winds and gives the building a solid, dignified look.

Concrete stone

Concrete stone is the best ratio of price and durability – strong, with precise dimensions and available in various colors. Suitable for most gable roofs and is the most popular type of stone roof in Estonia.

Ceramic roof tiles

Ceramic tiles are a classic, with a lifespan of 80 years or more. The natural clay tone never fades because the color is embedded in the material. Ceramic tile roofing is a representative choice for both new construction and renovation of historic buildings.

Stone roof installation

A stone roof is a heavy covering – 40–50 kg/m² –, which is why the work always begins with an assessment of the supporting structure. A proper underlay, the correct pitch of the rafters and precise sheet metal work ensure that the roof will last for decades. We install stone roofs on roofs with a slope of 22 degrees or more.

If necessary, we will strengthen the structure and replace the rafters – we will assess the condition during the inspection and provide a clear overview before the work begins.

The values are indicative. Each tile roof is A1-class fireproof and will last for generations – the choice depends primarily on the style and budget of the building. You can find natural slate (Cupa 4 and Cupa 5) in our e-shop.

Together with specialists, we also install roof windows on all roof types. A roof window brings natural light to the attic floor and turns unused space into a full-fledged living space. We use high-quality VELUX roof windows, which we install according to the manufacturer’s instructions – this ensures the validity of the warranty and eliminates leaks.

A roof window can be installed both during the construction of a new roof and in an existing roof. A stone roof is not an obstacle here – the area around the window is solved with special sheet metal frames.

The price depends on the type of stone, the roof area, the slope and the complexity of the knots. Concrete stone is cheaper, ceramic more expensive, but both are affordable in terms of life cycle cost – the roof does not have to be replaced for generations. If you are considering lighter coverings, also see valtsplekk-katust, and if you want something truly timeless, then slate roof.

Most gable roofs can withstand the load of a stone roof, but on older buildings we assess the load-bearing capacity before starting work. If necessary, we will reinforce the rafters.

Concrete stone 50–60 years, ceramic stone up to 80 years and more. If a single stone breaks, it can be easily replaced.

Yes. Installing a skylight into an existing roof usually takes one working day and does not require roof reconstruction.
